Saint Brigid Delivers Hope

Determined first effort—In the Money!

September 20, 2008

After a disappointing Summer that included several setbacks for the Mojo faithful, the Partnership’s remaining Runner, Saint Brigid (a 2YO Filly by Chapel Royal, out of a Mr. Prospector mare Pleasing Prospect), brought home some much-needed hope to the masses with her debut at Kentucky Downs on September 16, 2008.

The race-day weather was exceptionally pleasant.  A slight breeze was blowing across the open Bluegrass fields; and white puffy clouds kept the afternoon sun tucked away.  This, of course, gave all of the horses extra bounce in their steps as they entered the paddock.  Known as SB, the Mojo Filly was alert while she was being equipped with her tack.  And, with the rider up, SB seemed very relaxed—especially when they stepped out on the lush, firm track.

Call to the post! Along the KD backside.

The race featured ten horses going the distance of six furlongs over an undulating European-style turf course.  SB broke well from the gate (positioned at the top of a hill on the backside).  After the first two furlongs, Brigid settled in nicely behind four front runners (only one of which would finish ahead of her).  Going into the far turn, SB improved her position as the course flattened out (near the four furlong mark).  When the horses turned into the uphill stretch, Rider Orlando Mojica placed Brigid to strike along the rail.  With a furlong to go and the cavalry charge coming, Mojica repositioned SB off the rail and away from one of the horses that was fading.  At the wire, Brigid got up for fourth progressing against the three other front runners.  She covered the last two furlongs in 25 seconds flat.

Past the wire. Return from the track.

“She did really well and moved like a professional when I asked her to go between horses,” Mojica told Trainer John Good.  “The dips of this track can be strange for an inexperienced horse, and I feel like if this had been a flat surface, she would have won.  I want to ride this Filly again in her next race.”  Returning from the barn area, our Trainer remarked, “The Filly’s understandably tired; but Brigid ran a good race and I think we have something to work with.  There are no problems with her.  She got a workout and the experience she needed.”  The next day, John reported that SB had eaten all of her supper when she returned to HighPointe; she is sound; and she will get back into her training program in a couple of days.

After an effort like this, it looks like Saint Brigid has her Mojo workin' for some fantastic Fall racing!

Saint Brigid's Début

Our Patroness has been training very well, and she's entered to race at Kentucky Downs on September 16!

The race conditions: Race 4 - $25,000 purse.  Maiden for Fillies Two Years Old at six furlongs over the European-style turf racecourse.   Post position 3.

Since this will be SB's first race, it's difficult to say how she'll do; but you can be sure that all Mojo Partners are very excited to see how she's going to run.  Regardless of the outcome, it'll be a lot of fun watching this filly make her debut.
