Year In Review and Plans for 2016 - Mojo's 10th Anniversary!

December 30, 2015

Mojo’s Mission is to introduce people to the sport of Thoroughbred racehorse ownership, as well as provide our Partners with an affordable, educational, and exciting ownership experience.

Every year we set ambitious goals for our racing groups, we formulate a variety of strategies to achieve our objectives, and we try to do something new to elevate everyone’s level of excitement.

As we close out 2015, I think it’s important to focus on the highlights of our racing activities, as well as reflect on the challenges we faced.  Since next year is Mojo’s 10th Anniversary, I also want to let you know that we are planning some fun-filled activities in 2016.  So, in addition to recapping our accomplishments in 2015, I am looking forward to our upcoming plans to celebrate a decade of Mojo racing!

Thoughts About 2015

In many ways, 2015 was a year of firsts: First race/win at Ellis Park, first Mojo Runner to have back-to-back wins, and the first time two different Mojo Groups won back-to-back races.  All of these wins were fantastic and they happened when we needed them the most.  And, to set the stage for a new year of racing, another Mojo milestone was marked at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale—we replenished our racing stable by purchasing three horses for a new Mojo Group.

This past year was not without its challenges.  Throughout 2015, Mother Nature was a recurring factor, and her influence caused more of our races to be either washed out and/or run over muddy track conditions than we had over fast/firm footing.  We started 2015 with four runners and grand aspirations for our racing plans; however, for a variety of uncontrollable reasons, one runner simply didn’t pan out as a racehorse, another had to be retired after returning to racing glory then sustaining a career-ending injury, and a third was claimed. Leaving us with one Mojo Runner at the end of the year.

Though our Mojo Runners weren’t able to achieve the desired racing objectives in 2015, in September, we reloaded with 3 new horses from the Keeneland Sale and set our sights on the coming 10th Anniversary year.

Plans for 2016 - Mojo's 10th Anniversary Year!

We plan to resume Mojo racing at the 2016 Thoroughbred Meet at Lone Star Park (which begins in April).  Meanwhile, during the first quarter, we’ll be preparing our three new runners for their first starts, as well as conditioning our 3YO for turf racing in the spring.

Before making their debuts, the new horses in the Mojo Trio need to be named.  As such, in January, all Mojo Fans will be given an opportunity to participate in the naming process.  In the past two years, we’ve invited our Fans to help us name our new Runners.  This has been fun for all and helpful to Mojo, and we will be posting information via our Mojo social channels in the near future insofar as how you can take part—stay tuned!

Heza City Slicker (who is currently turned out after a busy 2YO season) will get back into training in February, and he’ll be prepared for his three-year-old turf racing campaign.  You can be sure that we’ll post updates on his progress via Mojo Facebook and Twitter too.

And, starting in January, Mojo LLC will begin running ads that promote our 10th Anniversary.  We will also post stories that highlight Mojo’s achievements over the past decade, as well as a series of articles that explains the ways to become a Thoroughbred racehorse owner.  Of course, in keeping with our Mojo Mission, throughout the year, we will offer opportunities for our Fans to join the festivities so they can get their Mojo work’n in 2016!
