Over the past three months, Mojo's been grooming Propizio for his first race. The process is taking longer than anticipated.
"This horse is an interesting case," reports Fred Taylor, Mojo's CEM. "Physically, he's built like a freight train (big and solid), and he has the pedigree to cover a route of ground (possibly on the grass); but he just seems to operate at one speed - not slow and not fast, just right in the middle."
Propizio is a two-year-old gelding by Point Given out of an Auspice mare (by Rubellino). Auspice was unraced in England; but she's produced five runners - three of which have been winners (including a Colt by Point Given).
Earlier this year, Propizio produced a quick work during the Undertack Show for the Fasig-Tipton Two-Year-Olds In Training Sale. Since then, Mojo has given him time off to grow into his big body and mature. "Our goal was to prep Propizio for an early start to his 3YO career, with the hope of getting one or two races in as a 2YO."
Given his recent mediocre works and lack-luster training effort, Mojo's in the process of considering race conditions and dates. "We've had horses with a ton of talent; but we're not able to realize their potential because of a career ending ailment. We've had horses that have very competitive spirits; but just didn't have the talent to race at the top levels. This is the first time we've had a horse that has the physique; but just doesn't show much interest doing anything with it right now. It's a peculiar situation to be in, really."
