Shez for You Hits the Board in 2nd Start

June 4, 2016

Mojo's 2YO Filly, Shez for You (by Macho Uno out of Shebelongstoyou) made her second start in a 5 furlong maiden special race at Lone Star Park (LS) on Saturday, June 4.

Shez moving up(!),” exclaimed Fred Taylor, Mojo’s CEM.  “She may not be the fastest 2YO Filly on the planet; but she's got a competitive racing heart.”

Once again, drawing the #1 post (closest to the rail, and not the ideal spot for a first race because it can be confining to the horses), Shez for You was put to the test of being tucked on the inside and having to bide her time until a spot opened up.

"She was relaxed while waiting for the other horses to load," Fred explained.  "And, when the gates opened, she came out cleanly and was up with the front of the pack."

Down the back stretch and into the far turn, two horses moved to the front, 3 were neck-in-neck in the middle of the track, and Shez for You was right on their hips along the rail.  Half way around the turn, the front runners held their ground, the three horses in the middle of the track began to fade, and Shez for You started moving forward.

At the top of the stretch, the front runners contested each other for the lead and built a two-length lead on Shez for You who came off the rail two wide maintaining 3rd.  At the eight pole, the winner started to draw off; but Shez for You continued to dig in and chase the horse that was dropping back.  At the wire, the winner won by 5 lengths and Shez for You closed within 3/4ths of length from taking 2nd to finish 3rd.

When asked about the way she ran, Jockey Lindey Wade reported: "There’s still more there. She was into the race, sat patiently, and responded when I asked her to go. She’s not a horse that’s going to get out front and run off with it; but she’s got a nice base and should do well at a longer distance."

After the race, Shez for You was a little tired; but she wasn’t spent.  Back at the barn, she was alert, happy, and finished her dinner.

"I think she's going to be a solid horse that'll make her run from off the pace,”says Mojo's Trainer, JR Caldwell. "It looks like she can relax, carry her speed, and eventually move on with it down the stretch.  The distance question will be answered later this year as the 2YO races get longer."

At this stage, it’s too soon to know if Shez for You will be better suited for a longer sprint (6.5F or 7F) or more of a two-turn type of runner.  Meanwhile, as we wait for ideal conditions, JR’s Team will be focused on keeping the Mojo Filly primed, happy, and in contention for her next race.

"This horse is going to be fun to watch as she continues to grow and her racing prowess develops," Fred explains.  "She's a treat to have in the barn."

Shez for You will be given several weeks to freshen up before being entered to run again at the end of June.  So, stay tuned for upcoming racing info about the Mojo Filly, as well as more exciting news on our other Mojo Runners!
