Left Coast Dreams Wins at DED!

October 29, 2016

Left Coast Dreams (by Haynesfield out of LA Dreamin) wins in his seventh start - a 6.5 furlong, Maiden Special race at Delta Downs (DED) on Friday, October 28!

"Now, all three horses in the Mojo Trio are winnners!,” exclaims Fred Taylor, Mojo’s CEM.

Left Coast Dreams is part of Mojo's first 3-horse racing group that also includes Sound of Fury (the son of Broken Vow and La Concerto who has 1 win and 1 show in 7 starts) and Shez for You (the daughter of Macho Uno and Shebelongstoyou who has 1 win and 2 shows in 6 starts).

“Lefty's win is extra sweet because we had high hopes for him earlier in the year; but he encountered some extra-ordinary challenges that prevented him from reaching his full racing potential," Fred points out.  "JR and his Team tended to his health all spring and it took most of the summer for Lefty to establish a good conditioning base.  So, now that he's well, JR was able to put him in the right spot to get over the hump and into the winner's circle.”

Left Coast Dreams’ win last night comes on the heels of Sound of Fury’s win the week prior (also at DED).  "I suppose that's fitting ," Fred says, "Afterall, these two horses were literally purchased back-to-back at the 2015 Keeneland September Yearling Sale (Sound of Fury was Hip #2940 and Left Coast Dreams was Hip #2941)."

Race Recap

From the start, Left Coast Dreams was away alertly and up with the early leaders.  Going around the Clubhouse turn, Jockey Chris Rosier positioned Lefty between the longshot showing early speed (on the inside) and the favorite (to outside).  Down the backstretch, Lefty moved up to 2nd sitting off the hip of the leader (who was setting rapid fractions), while saving a little ground (and energy) stalking the pace.

Going around the far turn, Rosier drew Left Coast Dreams up alongside the leader and moved into position to make a run for the wire as they turned for home.  At the top of the stretch, Lefty engaged on the leader.  With a 16th to go, Lefty dug in, took the lead, and pulled away to win by a length and 3/4s.

"Everything came together nicely for us," Fred explains.  "The race conditions were favorable, JR and his Team had the horse ready to go, the jockey rode a perfect race, and the horse ran well.  I'm thankful for the way things are going, and hope we're able to keep this momentum on our side for a while."

What’s on the Horizon?

So, what’s next for Left Coast Dreams and the two other horses in the Mojo Trio?  “Lefty and Sound of Fury will get a little rest between races, and we plan to run Shez for You in the first part of November,” Fred says.  Of course, we're looking for the Mojo Filly to keep the Mojo work'n down in Cajun Country!”
