Left Coast Dreams Determined Effort at DED

November 10, 2016

Left Coast Dreams (by Haynesfield out of LA Dreamin) made his seventh start at Delta Downs (DED) on Friday, November 11 and finished a determined 3rd.

“It was a gutsy effort by Left Coast Dreams down stretch to stand his ground and hit the board,” explains Mojo’s CEM, Fred Taylor.  “We turned around on short rest, asking Lefty to go forward against winners this time out, and he ran for us with pure heart tonight.”

From the start, Left Coast Dreams was a step slower out of the gate and fell behind other horses; he had to stalk the pace around the clubhouse turn; however, once he was able to lengthen his stride, he started making up ground down the backstretch.  Going into the far turn, Jockey Chris Rosier called on Lefty to quicken and the two advanced their position.  At the top of the stretch, the two horses on the lead drew off.  Lefty moved up to 3rd and was challenged by a horse that had previously run in stakes company.  Down the stretch, our rider kept Left Coast Dreams to task and he dug in with all heart.  Not willing to give an inch, Lefty held on in a photo finish for 3rd by a head.

"This is the kind of race that tests the will of your horse," Fred said.  "When the other runner hooked up with Lefty, our guy didn’t fold and our jockey didn’t give up—though they weren’t in a position to win, they certainly gave us hard-knock’n effort on the race track tonight."

After the race, JR said he liked the way Lefty ran: "It was solid effort coming back on two weeks rest.  He's in the right company, and he'll be much better/stronger the next time out."
