City Slicker Wins at Lone Star Park!

Heza City Slicker Win

July 15, 2016

Mojo's three-year-old, Heza City Slicker (by City Zip out of Sheza Nasty Lady), ran in a five-and-a-half furlong race at Lone Star Park (LS) on Friday, July 15.  This was City Slicker's 13th and final start of his racing career.

“He finally did it!” exclaims, Fred Taylor, Mojo’s CEM.  “City Slicker's big win couldn't have happened at better time for Mojo or the horse—he truly saved the best for last!

After 13 attempts, Heza City Slicker finally broke his maiden, and he did it in his last race (before retirement) and Mojo’s last race of the 2016 Lone Star Park Meet.

“I can’t think of a sweeter, more-satisfying way to wrap up Mojo’s Lone Star racing operations and City Slicker’s career than with a win,” Fred said  “And, Slick did it with style too.”

Straight from the gate, Jockey Iram Diego hustled City Slicker to the front of the pack; he asked him to put forth everything he’s got going around the turn to keep his rivals at bay; and then to dig in down the stretch and bring home the win for Mojo.  And, Slicker responded as if he knew what was on the line by running his best race of his racing career—he won going away by 2 lengths!

“I guess he saved the best for last,” Mojo’s Trainer, JR Caldwell explains.  “The right combination of conditioning, the field of runners, and luck finally came together for the horse and for this group.  I’m realy happy that Slicker finally won, and it couldn’t have happened at a better moment for everyone.”

Mojo will be retiring Heza City Slicker from racing and the 3YO Gelding will be transitioned to a new career by the Thoroughbred Athletes, Inc organization.  [For more information about Thoroughbred Athletes, click: TA, Inc ]  Mojo Capital Partner Joe Alexander says: “The mission of Thoroughbred Athletes is to rehabilitate, retrain, and re-home off-track racehorses.  The organization does a wonderful job teaching the horses the new skills needed that will provide them with a future once their racing careers have ended.  And, for folks who want a show horse, an event horse, or just a loyal companion, I’m certain that you can find what you are looking for at Thoroughbred Athletes, Inc.”

Even though Slick won’t be running in any races going forward, we’ll be sure to provide updates about his new career as they become available.  Meanwhile, stay tuned for more exciting news about Mojo Racing Partners upcoming activities and our Runners!
