Mojo Race Recap: Bling It On Baby 2nd in Allowance Company!

November 20, 2014

Bling It On Baby

Mojo's two-year-old Filly, Bling It On Baby (by Pomeroy out of Majestic Glitter), ran in a 6 furlong Allowance race at Remington Park on Wednesday, November 19.  This was Bling’s third start coming off a 2nd place finish in the E.L. Gaylord Stakes on October 24 preceded by an impressive debut win on September 11.

“Sometimes what is learned from the experience gained is more valuable than the immediate result,” explains Fred Taylor, Mojo’s CEM.  “And, I think that’s the case with Bling and her run last night.”

Bling It On Baby had a rough start (bumped and pushed back right out of the gate) from which she spotted the field eight lengths.  She was hustled down the back stretch to get in the race.  Going into the far turn, she was boxed in on the inside by four other horses vying for the lead and, thus, she had to bide her time around the bend.  At the top of the stretch, the eventual winner was in the ideal spot at the front of the pack to make the first move and draw off toward the finish.  Bling had to wait for an opening in order to challenge.  Jockey Jarreth Loveberry found room along the rail and set out to go after the horse that got loose on the lead.  Once clear, Bling kicked in at the 3/8ths pole, and though she wasn’t able to catch the horse that went on to win, Bling was able to finish second by 6 and ¾ lengths over the rest of the field.

“Getting squeezed at the start and dealing with traffic troubles are normal circumstances in racing,” Fred explains.  “In a sprint (especially with younger horses), these things have a tendency to impact the horse’s momentum at a critical points in the race, and only good horses have the talent to overcome those kinds of challenges.  And, that’s what I like about Bling It On Baby—though she didn’t win the race, she demonstrated (twice) that she has the ability to handle these obstacles, recover from setbacks, and still finish strong.”

Mojo’s Trainer, JR Caldwell, was happy with Bling’s effort and thinks the race will help her going forward.  “She did good, and she showed us she has the skills she’ll need in bigger races against tougher competition.”

So, what’s next for Bling It On Baby?  “There are several options to consider in December and January,” JR said.  “We’ll see how she comes out of the race and then decide what conditions are best suited for her.”

We're looking forward to Bling’s next race.  Stay tuned for updates about Bling It On Baby, as well as other exciting Mojo news to come!  You can get the latest updates about Bling It On Baby and the other Mojo Runners on the Mojo Facebook page or by following the action on the Mojo Twitter feed.
