Mojo Race Recap: A Tough Day at Oaklawn Park

March 14, 2015

Bling at OP

Mojo's three-year-old Filly, Bling It On Baby (by Pomeroy out of Majestic Glitter), ran in a 6-Furlong Allowance race at Oaklawn Park on Saturday, March 14.  This was Bling’s seventh start of her racing career.

Bling ran well in the first part of the race; but, she just didn’t have enough in the tank today to elevate her game down the home stretch,” said Fred Taylor, Mojo’s CEM.

Starting from Post Position #9 on a race track that was rated “good”, Bling It On Baby cleared half of the field and raced in fourth down the backstretch.  Going around the far turn, Bling kept her pace; but, when the Jockey Jarreth Loveberry called on her to quicken, she didn’t respond.  At the top of the lane, Bling began to lose momentum and she coasted to the wire finishing 8th as the closers passed her by.

“At post time, the track looked wet, heavy, and deep—it seemed like one step above mud to me,” Fred says.  “No matter the official rating, it definitely required an extra level of effort to get over it.  I only mention this because, statistically, I knew Bling needed the best conditions to perform well against the competition this afternoon.  Mother Nature had other plans for us in this regard today.”

“Despite the track conditions, Bling’s been racing against some of the best fillies at that level lately,” Fred explains.  “And, the truth is, she’ll continue to face this kind of talent when those healthy purses are on the line because there’s no shortage of owners/trainers out there who want to go after it.”

What’s next for Bling It On Baby?  “Bling is a good/consistent runner, and after we see how she comes out of the race, we’ll review our options,” Fred said. “Bling’s also special to Mojo, and the Lone Star Meet is right around the corner.  We’re getting ready to make a good run at our home track, and Bling would definitely have a spot in the starting line up if we decide to bring her to Texas.”
