In July 2016, Mojo Racing Partners celebrated 10 years of fun/affordable racing; wrapped up its operations at Lone Star Park; and achieved several milestones along the way.

“Our number one goal every race meet is to provide our Partners and Fans with a fun and affordable ownership experience,” explains Mojo’s CEM, Fred Taylor.  “For 10 years, through our Mojo Racing Groups, we’ve been giving the people opportunities to participate in the sport of Thoroughbred racing when they would otherwise not be able to do it on their own.  And, we’re going to continue doing that.”

During the 2016 Thoroughbred Meet at Lone Star Park, Mojo horses ran in 15 races; they won two races; and came in 3rd three times which yielded a 33% “on the board” result.

In addition to a respectable race record, Mojo also accomplished several milestones during the 2016 Lone Star Meet:

·         First time all Mojo Runners finished “on the board”
·         First time two Mojo Runners ran in the same race (twice during the LS Meet)
·         First time two Mojo Runners ran on the same day (different races, same track)
·         First stakes race at Lone Star Park
·         First time to have more than one winning Mojo Runner (during the LS Meet)
·         10th Anniversary Celebration

Based in Fort Worth, Texas, Mojo Racing Partners was formed in 2006.  Mojo organizes racing groups that include multiple horses capable of competing at all levels.  “Ten years ago, we bought one horse from the Keeneland September Yearling Sale,” Fred explains.  “Today, we’re buying several horses from the same sale and bundling them into one fun-filled package for the group.”

To support its bloodstock acquisition objectives, Mojo has two levels of ownership participation: Capital Partners and General Partners.  The Capital Partners provide the resources to buy horses and own a larger vested interest in the horses acquired.  The General Partners carry smaller shares, limited obligations, and their contributions are utilized to offset the administrative costs of managing the group.

“In a nutshell, the different participation levels provide us with the opportunity to acquire more horses, manage a quarterly operating budget, and keep our participation costs low,” Fred explains.  “The Mojo Concept and the structure of our racing operation isn’t for everyone—we manage a niche business model that works well for the services we’re providing.”

Mojo teams up with and utilizes the training services of JR Caldwell, and our Mojo Runners typically race on the Southwestern Circuit where Caldwell Racing Stables establishes barns at Lone Star Park, Remington Park, and Oaklawn Park.  Mojo has raced at Arlington Park, Churchill Downs, Ellis Park, Indiana Downs, Keeneland, Kentucky Downs, Lone Star Park, Oaklawn Park, Prairie Meadows, Remington Park, and Turfway Park.

“Partnering with JR has been a winning combination,” Fred says.  “Since we’ve teamed up with JR, the Mojo Concept has rapidly evolved and our racing operation has quadrupled.  Together, we are providing more opportunities for racing fans to become active participants in the ownership side of the sport.”
