Allen Bogan Memorial
Award: Fred Taylor, Jr.
The Allen Bogan Memorial Award is presented to the TTA member in good standing whose efforts and contributions to the association and the Texas Thoroughbred industry, specifically during the preceding calendar year, most helped to further the goals of the TTA and racing in the state. The efforts and accomplishments of the Allen Bogan Memorial Award recipient have brought recognition and distinction to the Thoroughbred industry in Texas.
Formerly the “Member of the Year Award”, the name of the award changed in 1997 to honor a Texas racing legend—the original Texas Turf Writer, Allen Bogan. Mr. Bogan passed away in 1997 after having served the Thoroughbred Industry with the highest integrity for decades.
“I’m surprised and truly flattered to be recognized by the TTA, the Board, and our Members—thank you,” said Fred Taylor. “Serving the sport, our fans, and TTA is a responsibility that I accept in the spirit of Mr. Bogan, and I"m committed to doing my part to uphold the values this award represents. There are countless hard working people who tirelessly promote Thoroughbred racing, and I’m honored to receive the recognition in this regard.”
TTA Secretary/Treasurer and Director of Marketing Committee, Mark Martinez, also received the Allen Bogan Memorial Award on Saturday night. “Mark is dedicated to taking the TTA to the next level. His passion, knowledge, and experience is what the association needs, and I feel special to receive this award with him,” Fred explains. “Along with the energy and support of Ken Carson, Mary Ruyle, and Tom Keith, we are trying new communication methods, channels, and contacts to serve the existing base of members and promote the sport to the next generation of Thoroughbred racing fans.”
