Partnership Structure

Mojo’s Partnership structure is based on 10 fundamental elements:  Concept, Mission, Ethics, Scope, Profit Motive, Size, Leadership, Communication, Selection Process, and Costs.

Concept

Provide an easy, affordable, and fun Ownership experience.  We create good Mojo by placing the best interest of the horse first; upholding high standards; and being good stewards of the Industry.

Mission

To prove that ordinary people can be upstanding and successful Thoroughbred Race Horse Owners.  And, good Runners can be purchased for a reasonable price.

Ethical Standards

(1)  Provide the best care, attention, and environment available to our Runners.

(2)  We demand the highest adherence to racing rules, regulations, and playing by the book in every jurisdiction.  Cheating is not accepted or tolerated.

(3)  We will not compromise the Integrity of our Partners or this Partnership to achieve the Mojo Mission.

(4)  We do not support illegal medication use or unauthorized drugs.  In fact, we prefer to limit the use of medications in our Runners.

(5)  Communication at all levels is important to keep all Partners informed about the status of our particular Runners.  Lying, deception, and elusive practices damage the trust of this relationship and are not accepted or tolerated.

Scope

We are a "boutique" Partnership.  We don’t pretend to be everything to everyone, and we don’t act like we’re a big syndicate.  We concentrate on providing a specialized experience to folks who are willing to live by the Mojo Creed.

Profit Motive

The Partnership is not structured to make a profit off of the Partners’ Investments or their contributed monthly expenses.  In fact, the Terms of the Partnership have been specifically drafted to ensure that only the costs associated with managing our Runners and the Partnership are shared equally on a “break even” basis.

The Partnership, however, is structured so that each of the respective Partners can realize a net profit only if their Mojo Runner earns enough purse money; is sold (publicly or privately); claimed; and/or syndicated.

Number of Partners

The number of Partners could differ for each horse.  We’ve learned that the ideal minimum is based upon the objective, and the Managing Partner will decide what is the best number to ensure the monthly costs are set at an affordable level to ensure the Partnership's liquidity.

Leadership

The Mojo Partnership and each of the Runners within the Partnership are lead by the Managing Partner (MP)—Mojo's MP is Fred Taylor, Jr.  The Terms of the Partnership have been written so that the MP makes the final decision on all matters related to the Partnership, as well as our Runners’ racing interests.  That said, the MP may consult with the Senior Partners (if there are any) before a final decision is made and shares with all Partners in a timely manner relevant information about their respective horse’s livelihood.

The responsibility of the MP is to try to help all Partners fulfill their Ownership expectations.  This is primarily accomplished by being open, honest, and upfront about all of the risks and rewards of Thoroughbred racing.  Information is power, and it’s up to the MP to make sure all Mojo Partners are the most informed patrons of the sport.  Personal satisfaction comes from introducing new people to Ownership and helping them become life-long Thoroughbred racing ambassadors.

Through servant leadership, the Ownership experience is better.

Communication

The MP’s intentions have always been to provide each-and-every Partner with the best information, access, support, confidence, and opportunity to experience the joys of Ownership for a fraction of what they would pay as a sole owner or with a larger racing partnership.  Providing our Partners with constant information and access is what we're about, and there are no plans to change that.

The Mojo Site was created to serve as a convenient community for our Partners, as well as be a resource for the general public wanting more information about our Partnership.

Runner Selection

We want untainted horses.  Better yet, we want to spoil our own Runners!  Thus, Yearlings and Two-Year-Olds In Training offer the best opportunity to be successful in our process.  As such, we reduce our risk by avoiding someone else’s mismanagement.

We prefer to buy our Runners from Keeneland, and we do not hire a bloodstock agent.  The MP is the sole buyer.  He studies every horse's pedigree that will be shown on the dates that he attends the Sale, and he personally evaluates the conformation of the ones that he is interested in purchasing.  The MP will consult with a Vet, our Trainer (an experienced equine analyst), and our trusted industry associates who have an expert eye for finding the right Runners at all levels of competition.

This has proven to be a successful and cost-effective selection process for our Partnership.  To date, all of our Sale purchases have turned out to be sound Runners that have gone on to be “in the money” on the racetrack.  God willing, we will continue to be blessed in this regard.

Investment and Monthly Costs

The initial investment price is set based on two things:  (1) The costs* associated with the acquisition, preparation, and training of the horse, and (2) The fair (justifiable) costs associated with running the Mojo Partnership.  The initial investment will be spread out over the Term of the Partnership (determined by the MP) as noted in the Subscription Document.

*The costs fluctuate based upon the care needed; services provided; and expenses related to running the partnership.  Thus, the average monthly costs are not set, and reasonable estimates are given as time goes by.
